Endless Watch

“In a place where light does not reach, a palace of crystal rises.”
This is a myth everyone has heard, on way or another.
A lost city, the peak of human society, which drowned into the depths of the abyss. The citadel of many names that has always been present in the minds and hearts of adventurers. No one knows what lies there. Many have looked for this fairytale. Some think of great treasure; others think only of making a name for themselves once by being the first to find it.
Children’s daydreams.
Many think of being the hero to give voice to and name to this legend.
But the truth behind, is simple.
The city does not want to be found.
Or more accurately, the citizens of this palace, do not want to be disturbed.
They sleep, and they have guardians that watch over them.
It all comes down to the mistakes of a Knight, the sadness of a sorcerer, and the promise of a second chance.
The king, as many men of that position, was betrayed because of hunger for power. The knight, blinded by his love of his general, forgot of his promises to his liege. And the Sorcerer was unable to directly interfere, hindered by the nature of his gift.
When the King fell, all hell broke loose.
The wounded knight could only watch as the drama unfolded in front of him. The general and son to the king, corrupted by his hunger, finally committed the expected deed. Everyone was expecting it, except for those blinded by love.
And even as the Old King closed his eyes, he had already forgiven his child. However, his knight could not easily forgive. And in what was a tragedy unfolding in three steps, the New King fell.
Blood and tears were what remained in the throne room. And finally, when everything was said and done, only then did the Sorcerer took it upon himself to act.

"The life that has left so unjustly can be saved. So in this, I command you, pitiful knight. Forever watch your master sleep, until the day comes that his soul shall return to you. Then, and only then, will the city awaken once more. But until that time comes, you must rend; slaugther and devour your enemies.
There is no other choice, if you wish to atone for your sin."

And the knight, unable or perhaps unwilling to let go of the pain and guilt, accepted.
He remains forever watchfull of the people of the palace. Guarding, like a vicious beast, the remains the glorious tomb on his people. Only in company with the other knights, under the watchful gaze of the sorcerer, he remains. The black knight of fairytale, waiting for his king's return.
